Following is a sample of what an essay response might look like.

Response:
Metadata is hidden information that is stored on almost all digitally created documents. Because it can provide information about when the file was created, when it was last modified, when it was last viewed, the computer upon which it was generated, and sometimes even the author of the file, metadata can be critical in determining the authenticity of the file, and may help determine whether the file has been compromised in any way, and by whom.
