Substantive Law Study Support

Constitutional Law

Chapter 9 -
Part 4

Putting It Into Practice

1. Assume that you work for a law firm that represents an individual whose driver’s license was suspended because of too many speeding tickets. Check the Web site for your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles for procedures and/or forms to be used to request a hearing regarding the suspension. If you cannot find the information online, contact a local motor vehicle office to obtain the information. Write a letter to the client explaining the procedures he should follow to challenge the suspension.

Student answers will vary; some states will only require a written request for a preliminary hearing, or they may have forms available online to request hearings. The letter should detail to the client what the proper steps are to request the hearing and what to expect once the process begins.
